Mr D O’BRIEN: The development of offshore wind farms off the Gippsland South coast is an exciting opportunity and one that is being embraced by many locals. I strongly support the proposed Star of the South project, which is the most advanced, while another two or three are in much earlier stages of development. These projects, along with emerging solar and hydrogen projects, have the potential to help Gippsland transition from coal, oil and gas jobs into a strong, new energy future which will continue to power the state. I am rather bemused, however, that the Andrews Labor government is now trying to take credit for a series of projects that were already under commercial development. I hope the government will show as much care for the people of Gippsland when it considers approval of less wanted land-based wind farms in coming weeks and months.
