With cost-of-living pressures hitting families hard, The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is encouraging eligible families to take advantage of the Get Active Kids program, which offers up to $200 to help cover the cost of children’s sport and recreation activities.
Mr O’Brien said the program can assist with expenses such as club memberships, uniforms and registration fees.
“Times are tough for many families right now and sport can often be one of the first things to go when budgets are tight,” Mr O’Brien said.
“This program can take a bit of pressure off and help parents keep their kids involved in local sport, which is so important for their health, confidence and social connections.”
Mr O’Brien highlighted that you don’t need to be part of a registered club to apply.
“While you can only use the Get Active Vouchers with registered clubs, as long as the activity is linked with a recognised state sporting or recreation body, you may be eligible for a reimbursement.
Round 9 is open now for children who have or will take part in an eligible activity between 1 July and 31 December 2025. Families can apply at www.getactive.vic.gov.au or by calling 1300 650 172.
Mr O’Brien also encouraged families to plan ahead for next year, with Round 10 of the Get Active Kids vouchers to open in February 2026 for children taking part in winter sports.
