NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY WEEK

Danny O’BRIEN (Gippsland South) (09:46): It is also National Road Safety Week. Tragically, we have had a number of reminders of the need for attention on this issue this week, including fatalities and the awful bus crash in Melbourne’s west on Tuesday. It is every parent’s nightmare to get the call that their child’s bus has been involved in a serious accident. While this was a very serious accident, with some children suffering life-altering injuries, thankfully there were no fatalities. As Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety I extend our thoughts to all those impacted by this terrible accident. More broadly, we need to continue to do better on road safety in this state. So far this year 120 people have lost their lives on Victorian roads, 30 more than at the same time last year. We must do better.
