Mirboo North’s own Mirboo Country Development Inc has been named among five finalists in the 2021 Victorian Health Promotion Awards under the Building Back Better category for its BooFIIT program.
The Awards recognise organisations and individuals committed to improving the health and wellbeing of their communities in the wake of the global pandemic and devastating 2020 bushfires.
BooFIIT is a group fitness community based in Mirboo North that offers fitness classes to a wide range of ages. The group’s nomination was based on their efforts to enable social connection, physical activity and wellness to the participants in group classes during the pandemic.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said he has delighted to see this local group recognised for its achievements and contribution to the local community.
“The fitness industry was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions that were subsequently put it place, so it is particularly endearing to see this group not only bounce back, but thrive,” Mr O’Brien said.
“We all know the strong correlation between physical and mental health and I’m extremely grateful to every organisation that has worked within the often confusing health directions to ensure opportunities for physical exercise remained on offer.
“BooFIIT has been and continues to be particularly fantastic at providing such opportunities for all ages and abilities with everything on offer from high intensity cardio workouts through to meditative yoga.
“I offer my thanks and congratulations to the team behind BooFIIT and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”
