Korumburra-Bena Giants will get a second new netball court under The Nationals in government with a $500,000 funding commitment made today.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said the funds will allow the club to construct a new netball court and refurbish the existing court and surrounds and upgrade lighting. This will see the Club able to host finals, a lucrative opportunity that has previously been unavailable to the Giants.
“Grassroots football and netball is where it all begins and having great facilities encourages more participation and in turn provides great social and health benefits for the community,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The completion of a second netball court and refurbishment of the existing court will be in addition to the current works scheduled for the club which includes new change room facilities and toilets to allow the club to better cater for female sport participants.
“The Giants are a critical part of the Korumburra community and we are determined to support their future and continue to encourage women’s sport.”
The Korumburra Bena Football Netball Club is located at the showgrounds and share the facility with the Korumburra Agricultural and Pastoral Society.
“The whole community will benefit from the upgrade of these facilities which also host several local events such as the Korumburra agricultural show, relay for life and the local dairy expo among many others.
“I am delighted to be able to make this commitment and look forward to seeing the project through to completion under The Nationals and Liberals in government.
“Only The Nationals in government understand the importance and benefits of grassroot sports to local communities like those in Gippsland South.”
