The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is reminding Gippsland energy account holders to claim their $250 Power Saving Bonus.
Mr O’Brien said with the cost of living spiralling, he wanted to ensure Gippslanders now about the opportunity to save $250 off their power bills.
“This rebate is a one-off $250 payment for Victorian energy account holders to provide immediate financial relief and is limited to one payment per household,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The previous payment was only available to those who held a pensioner concession card or received certain government payments, whereas there are no such restrictions this time around – you just need to be the energy account holder.
“Those who previously received the earlier $250 payment will also be eligible for this second payment as long as they hold an energy account in their name.”
Mr O’Brien said that while he welcomed any assistance to ease growing energy costs, he was concerned that the application process would place unnecessary hardship on those without access to the internet.
“The application process for this payment is to log on to the Energy Compare website and search for a better energy deal.
“While I hope that encouraging people to do this will increase competition in the industry and result in better deals on offer, it makes it very difficult for those who are not tech savvy or simply do not have access to the internet.”
Mr O’Brien said he was aware that many local neighbourhood houses were available to offer assistance to those without internet access dependent on staffing.
“Our neighbourhood houses are invaluable, but they are often already stretched so thin, so it is best to call ahead and make an appointment if you require their assistance.”
