Questions without notice and ministers statements
Danny O’BRIEN (Gippsland South) (14:07): My question is to the Premier. Can the Premier look Victorians in the eye and admit that $15 billion was lost to corruption while he was Jacinta Allan’s partner in crime?
The SPEAKER: Order! The Leader of the Nationals was referring to the member for Bendigo East. We call members by their correct titles.
Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:08): I said this yesterday. Whether it is in business or the union movement, integrity is not optional; it is fundamental. And that goes for government projects.
Danny O’BRIEN (Gippsland South) (14:08): Until recently the Premier has said that a royal commission was not required. He has now announced a royal commission. What has changed?
Members interjecting.
The SPEAKER: The member for Monbulk is warned.
Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:08): I am not Daniel Andrews. I am not Jacinta Allan. My first action as Premier was to establish a royal commission and a special prosecutor to go alongside it that will shine a light and will get working straightaway.
Members interjecting.
The SPEAKER: The member for Berwick can leave the chamber for half an hour.
