Aussie spirit high in Gippsland

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is encouraging people to get out and celebrate Australia Day at one of the many events occurring across the Gippsland region on January 26.

Mr O’Brien said that there are many events planned throughout Gippsland to give residents the opportunity to celebrate Australia Day.

“Australia Day is a great opportunity for us to get together and celebrate what makes our nation the best in the world,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Notwithstanding the need for COVID safe measures to be in place, this is a great chance to get out and celebrate the things that make our country great, while also spending tourism dollars in the towns that desperately need our support.”

“These events are also an opportunity to celebrate the people who work hard and volunteer their time to make our region special as well as to welcome new Australians who are going to make our community even stronger.”

Citizens of the Year will be recognised across many towns in Gippsland South on Australia Day.

Mr O’Brien said he was thankful to those groups and local councils that are hosting community celebrations and making this public recognition possible and hope that those attending events will be respectful of the efforts of the organisers to remain compliant with current restrictions.

“I appreciate that everyone has their own opinions on what is and isn’t necessary, but I hope that we can all show respect for the hard-working people behind each event and comply with the necessary measures in place.

“I encourage all my constituents to enjoy their Australia Day, whether that be at home or at a local event, and remember the privilege that is being Australian.”
