Gippsland South Schools secure VicHealth Kitchen Garden Grants

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is celebrating a win for local schools, with five Gippsland South primary schools successful in securing a VicHealth and Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation grant.

Korumburra Primary School, Toora Primary School, Welshpool and District Primary School, Alberton Primary School and Araluen Primary School will each receive $1,500 for kitchen and garden equipment, along with a two-year membership to the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

Mr O’Brien said the grants will help students develop practical cooking and gardening skills while building confidence and healthy habits.

“This is fantastic news for these schools and their students,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Hands-on learning in the kitchen and garden gives children skills they will use for life and encourages healthy, confident choices from a young age.

“I congratulate the principals, teachers and students on this achievement.

“It’s terrific to see our local schools leading the way in food education and making a real difference in our community.

“These grants will empower our kids to learn about healthy eating, sustainability, and the joy of cooking all while having fun in the garden.”
