Water safety and tourism on Opposition Leader’s agenda
State Opposition Leader Michael O’Brien has thanked Gippsland’s life guards for their work and reminded people to play it safe in the water this summer as he visited Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club this week.
Mr O’Brien also heard of the importance of tourism and encouraged Melbourne residents to get out and about in Gippsland, as part of his visit through the region with The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien.
Mr O’Brien met local life guards and discussed expansion plans at Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club with Club President, Chris Fleming.
“Seaspray has a fantastic facility here in the Surf Life Saving Club and both the volunteer and professional life guards do a fantastic job on our beaches.
“I thank them for their work in looking after the rest of us and I remind people to stay safe and swim between the flags.
“Sadly, we have seen this week tragic consequences of people getting into trouble in the water and we all have to take care.
“Seaspray is a great place on the 90 Mile Beach and I encourage all Victorians, but particularly Melbournians, to get out and support our local tourism industry in places like Seaspray and surrounds.
“Every dollar spent helps our local economy, helps create jobs and helps us to recover from the Coronavirus lockdowns.”
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien said he was pleased to be able to welcome Michael O’Brien to Seaspray.
“The fantastic surf club building we have there would not have been possible without $1.5 million in funding provided by the former Liberals and Nationals Government and secured by my predecessor Peter Ryan.
“It was augmented by an enormous community fundraising program and the result is a fantastic facility for the Seaspray and Wellington Shire community.
“We look forward to seeing the next phase of development plans coming to fruition and receiving the necessary funding support from the State Government.”
