The Great Rosedale Vanilla Slice Triumph
Rosedale Bakery has done Gippsland proud, topping a poll of vanilla slices from around Victoria at State Parliament.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said his Nationals colleagues had all brought vanilla slice from a local bakery in their electorate to last week’s first Parliamentary sittings.
These were judged by the journalists from the State Parliamentary Press Gallery and Rosedale’s offering came out on top.
“This was a bit of light-hearted fun to start the new parliamentary year, but of course we are all parochial about the food offerings from our local electorate.
“I am very pleased though, that when put to the test from the impartial journalists in the Parliamentary Press Gallery that Gippsland shone through as usual.
“Congratulations to pastry chef, Nathan Stanley and all the team at the Rosedale Bakery for their win.
“Despite the advice of my cardiologist I am a regular visitor to Gippsland bakeries, including Rosedale, so I know first-hand what a good product they make.”
Mr O’Brien said the informal competition mirrored that which was started by former Premier Jeff Kennett, who started ‘The Great Vanilla Slice Triumph’ after declaring the delicacy from a bakery in Ouyen the best he had ever tasted.
“Ever since then there’s been a connection between vanilla slice and politics, and I’m in no way surprised that a Gippsland bakery is top of the tree.”
