Ryans receive Nats life membership
Former Deputy Premier and Leader of the Victorian Nationals Peter Ryan and his wife Trish have been recognised with life membership of the party.
Mr Ryan served as Member for Gippsland South for 22 years, was The Nationals Leader for 15 years and was Deputy Premier from 2010 to 2014.
His successor as Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien and Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester were both in Wonthaggi for the presentation of life membership to the Ryans at The Nationals State Conference.
“Peter was an all-round great leader and a person who was respected across politics for his dedication to rural and regional Victoria,” Mr O’Brien said.
“He always put country Victoria first and was incredibly well supported by Trish and his family throughout his distinguished career.”
Mr O’Brien and Mr Chester both worked in Mr Ryan’s office during his time as leader.
“Peter was a great boss and a great leader during his time in Parliament and together with Trish, they made a formidable team,” Mr Chester said.
“Life membership of The Nationals is due recognition for his service to Gippsland, Victoria and our party.”
