Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day
October is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month with a remembrance day being observed on October 15 across more than 20 countries.
Still a subject many don’t talk about, but one that affects thousands of people with an estimated 1 in 4 pregnancies in Australia ending in miscarriage, 6 babies a day born sleeping and 2 babies a day leaving this world within the first 28 days of their life.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said as a community we need to remember everyone grieves the loss of a loved one in a different way, with pregnancy and infant loss being no different.
“This is a subject close to my heart after my own experience of loss.
“Many people are impacted by the loss of a baby during pregnancy, during birth or in infancy including medical staff and extended family members.
“This means people in our community may be finding their way through the most devastating time in their lives but feel they can’t talk about it.
“I encourage people to talk about their loss and reach out for support.”
A Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Service will be held on 15 October 2019 in Melbourne. For further information please visit - spiritualhealthvictoria.org.au/PregnancyandInfantLoss
