Parliament House Open Day – you’re invited!
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has invited his constituents to attend the State Parliament Open Day next Sunday 17 March 2019.
Mr O’Brien said the Open Day was a fantastic opportunity for people throughout Victoria to see inside Parliament and experience some of the history and tradition that goes with our democracy.
“This year’s Parliament House Open Day is part of Cultural Diversity Week and will feature music and dancing from around the world,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Parliament House is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the state and it’s a privilege not only to be a local member but to spend time in it throughout the year.
“Parliament House Open Day is a great opportunity for Gippslanders to also go and have a look inside a building that very few ever take the opportunity to see.”
During the Parliament House Open Day there will be lots of activities, displays about our democracy and parliamentary process as well as food trucks on the front steps and other entertainment.
There will also be the opportunity for self-guided tours using a downloadable app.
Mr O’Brien said one of the key strengths of Australian democracy was its accessibility to the people.
“You can come and visit State Parliament at any time with minimal fuss, but the open day is a great opportunity to get right inside the building and see some areas that are not normally open to the public.
“I encourage anyone in Gippsland who would like to know more about this beautiful old building and our system of State Government to get on down to Melbourne and enjoy the open house next Sunday.”
Parliament House will be open from 10am until 3pm and entry is free.
