O’Brien calls on Labor to back our volunteers
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has again called on the Andrews Labor Government to fund new fire stations that are desperately needed at Mirboo North, Foster and Yarram.
Mr O’Brien was speaking in State Parliament during Volunteers Week where he highlighted the importance of supporting volunteers who make such a difference in our communities.
“I’m proud that The Nationals have committed $2.1 million to rebuild the Mirboo North Fire Station and I continue to work with my colleagues on Foster and Yarram.
“Over three years I have now written to two different Ministers, raised the need for funding of these stations in Parliament on several occasions and have been active in the media yet the Andrews Labor Government has completely ignored the needs of these communities.
“The three stations are out of date, too small for current firefighting appliances and actually put the safety of volunteers at risk given the cramped conditions.
“Labor has disrespected our volunteers over the last three and a half years and continues to do so by failing to provide any money for significant replacement of stations such as these.
“I’m working within our team to ensure that we have the resources available to support our volunteers and local communities, and I’m proud that Mirboo North was the first cab off the rank.
“In Volunteers Week it’s important again to remember the contribution that our CFA and other volunteers make to our communities and I was pleased to do that in Parliament this week
“It’s now time the Labor Party got on board and provided funding to the CFA to replace the stations in Mirboo North, Yarram and Foster.”
