Nominate a local leader for Rural Women’s Award

Gippslanders who are inspired by women making a contribution in their community and the primary industries sector are encouraged to submit a nomination as part of this year’s Victorian Rural Women’s Award.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien said the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation’s (RIRDC) award highlighted female leaders in regional communities like Gippsland and provided them with financial and professional support.

“As I travel throughout the electorate there are a number of women that come to mind that are positively influencing their communities and shaping the agricultural sector and creating more opportunities for other women,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This award provides a fantastic opportunity for women in Gippsland to further their leadership skills, collaborate with other likeminded women and embrace diversity to overcome challenges within the sector and their communities.”

Mr O’Brien, a former employer of RIRDC who worked on the Rural Women’s Award program, said the winner would be awarded a $10,000 bursary to assist in developing their vision into a project or initiative that will benefit primary industries and rural Australia.

“The winner can choose to use that money across a range of areas, including undertaking formal training, overseas study tours, establishing business plans or pilot programs, developing educational or promotional campaigns and networking at forums and conferences,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The winner will also be offered the opportunity to participate in the Australian Institute of Company Directors Company Directors Course and will be supported to develop an individual leadership plan.”

Mr O’Brien said the leadership plan would assist the winner to implement their award vision and enhance their leadership development as well as additional networking, media and public relations opportunities.

Mr O’Brien said applications for the award were open until Friday, 30 October 2015 and more information or to obtain a nomination form can be found at
