New theatre cements South Gippsland Hospital services
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien says the new theatre and upgraded maternity facilities at South Gippsland Hospital will help secure the region’s hospital services for many years to come.
Mr O’Brien this week visited the hospital to see the new operating theatre which has been in operation for the last few months after some delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The new theatre and refurbished birthing suite are a fantastic addition to South Gippsland Hospital and will be welcomed by the region’s residents.
“I was pleased to be able to lobby the State Government for the $1.738 million-dollar grant received through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
“This is an important vote of confidence in the hospital and the ongoing provision of maternity and surgical services in the Corner Inlet area.”
Mr O’Brien said it was a great credit to staff and the Board of the hospital that the facility was now up and running.
“It is so important that we have modern facilities such as this in our rural areas and the presence of theatre and maternity services at Foster also helps ensure we can attract a good number of GPs to service the district.
“My congratulations to all involved and I look forward to continuing to work with the hospital and new Chief Executive Officer Paul Greenhalgh, to deliver high quality services into the future.”
