Meeniyan doing the (new) bus stop
Meeniyan businesses are celebrating after a two-year fight will finally deliver the town a new bus stop this week.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has been working with Meeniyan traders to relocate the east bound V/Line bus stop since the opening of the new Pandesal Bakery last year.
“With the new bakery and the increasing popularity of Meeniyan, especially with cyclists on the Great Southern Rail Trail, the bus stop in the centre of town took up extra parks and created a traffic and pedestrian hazard directly outside the IGA and bakery.
“It’s taken some time and an inordinate amount of bureaucracy but finally works started last week and I’m advised that by Tuesday the new bus stop next to Tompkins Road and adjacent the existing west bound stop opposite the pub will be complete today (Tuesday).”
