Liberal Nationals will finish Korumburra Secondary College
The Nationals in government will ensure the Korumburra Secondary College rebuild is completed, giving local students the modern school facilities they deserve.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien was joined by the Shadow Minster for Education, Tim Smith in announcing that a Liberal Nationals Government will fund the construction of stage two of the Korumburra Secondary College.
Mr O’Brien has been campaigning to complete the rebuild of the secondary school, with strong community backing, since being elected in 2015. The Nationals in government provided $5.6 million to build the first stage which is now being used.
“I am delighted to be able to announce that a Liberal Nationals Government will commit a further $6 million to the Korumburra Secondary College rebuild to ensure its completion,” Mr O’Brien said.
“This funding will cover the cost of demolishing and reconstructing the out-dated main school building at the front of the site.
“I have spent four years lobbying the Andrews Labor Government to provide funding for this important project and it’s been disappointing that Korumburra has been overlooked in successive Labor Government budgets.
“I have been really impressed by the school community, in particular the Community Engagement Group, as well as the wider local community for its support of the campaign for a new secondary college and I am overjoyed to be able to commit to delivering this project if we are elected.”
Mr Smith said he saw the need for the new school buildings after visiting earlier this year.
“The Liberal Nationals are committed to building the school facilities our students need to thrive – regardless of where they live,” Mr Smith said.
“Finishing the job we started in government will give Korumburra students the facilities they need to get the education they deserve.
“Labor has overlooked this school for too long – we will right that wrong.”
