Korumburra Secondary College plans on track
Plans have been finalised for the $12.8 million redevelopment of Korumburra Secondary College, with construction expected to start late this year.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien, visited the school this week to see the detailed plans for the school rebuild which will deliver a modern, fit-for-purpose educational environment for students in the Korumburra district for decades to come.
“The Korumburra community and I fought a six-year long battle to get the rebuild of this school funded so it was great to see the money in last year’s State Budget.
“The school community has been working hard with the Victorian School Building Authority and progress has been good, to the point that plans have now been finalised.
“It’s great to see it all coming together after a long fight to deliver a modern school for our local students and their teachers.”
Under the new plans, the existing decades-old class room block at the front of the school will be demolished, with the current admin area retained and refurbished.
A new class-room block with flexible learning areas will be built along with a new gymnasium and indoor basketball court with a performing arts area, storage areas, change and toilet facilities and other rooms. These buildings will be constructed on a separate parcel of school land, delivering cost savings and minimising disruption to current students.
“Our kids deserve the best we can offer them. This facility will send a strong signal to local secondary students that their community values them, values their education and wants to give them a good start in life.
“Hopefully it will help inspire the next generation to go on to bigger and better things, both in their lives and for the benefit of South Gippsland.”
It’s expected the project will go to tender in the second half of this year with a view to construction getting underway in December.
