Gippsland South schools celebrate works funding

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has congratulated 10 local schools which will be sharing in a total of $1.4 million funding for capital upgrades and minor works.

Mr O’Brien said it was great to see a number of schools in Gippsland South receive funding from the State Government’s Minor Capital Works Fund to allow them to get on with much needed works.

“Our children deserve the best learning environment possible and I’m delighted to see funding for a number of local projects that will help achieve that,” Mr O’Brien said.

“2020 has been a tough year for staff and students and additional funding to fix up schools buildings and grounds will be very welcome.  Schools will be using the funds for improvements ranging from building renovations, to new playground equipment to safety fencing.”

Schools receiving a share of the Minor Capital Works Fund include Guthridge Primary School ($318,125), Kongwak Primary School ($5,359), Korumburra Primary School ($86,165), Leongatha Primary School ($68,120), Loch Sport Primary School ($444,125), Meeniyan Primary School ($258,128), Nambrok Denison Primary School ($41,120), Rosedale Primary School ($112,125), Sale and District Specialist School ($10,020), Sale Primary School ($73,120) and Toora Primary School ($55,715).

“In addition to these funds, Korumburra Secondary College will also be receiving $12.8 million from the State Budget to complete stage 2 of its rebuild after a six-year wait for the funds to be secured.”

Mr O’Brien said while it was wonderful to see a number of local schools benefiting from the funding, he was disappointed to see larger crucial projects such as the rebuild of Foster Primary School and consolidation of Sale College campuses go unfunded.

“Although the Andrews Labor Government remains non-committal on these projects, I will continue to work with the schools and their wider communities to ensure these projects receive the funding required to provide the learning environment that our children deserve.”
