Gippsland on the agenda as State Parliament resumes
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is keen to get back to Spring Street next week with the first sittings of State Parliament for 2020 commencing on Tuesday.
Mr O’Brien said he has been busy since Parliament rose before Christmas with his ‘Your future, Your Say’ engagement program, visiting communities and receiving feedback.
“Obviously the East Gippsland bushfires have taken priority in recent weeks, but I really appreciate the time people have taken to share their views and ideas with me.
“People have met me for a chat at my listening posts throughout the electorate, sent emails or letters and completed the survey,” Mr O’Brien said.
Surveys were distributed across the electorate and online and responses are still coming in, Mr O’Brien said.
“I read each response that comes in and will use the information to represent our community in Parliament.
“Roads, public transport, healthcare, education and a better deal for farmers were all high priorities along with climate change. I’ll be collating all the responses and feedback I have received over coming months and using it to press issues with the state government.
“A strong message coming through since the East Gippsland fires is fuel reduction and better forest management practices,” said Mr O’Brien.
“In particular I have met with residents in Loch Sport who are concerned about the fire risks around their town and I will be raising this in Parliament.”
Mr O’Brien says if anyone (including sporting and community groups or businesses) would like to complete a survey they are able to access it online via his website http://www.dannyobrienmp.com.au/ or contact his office for a copy on 5144 1987.
