Funding for our veterans in Gippsland South
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is encouraging local organisations to put their hand up for a share in state government funding available to increase support for veterans and to commemorate their service.
Mr O’Brien said three funding streams are currently open with more than $1 million up for grabs.
“These grants are aimed at improving quality of life for our veterans and ensuring their important legacy is both remembered and honoured,” Mr O’Brien said.
Mr O’Brien said the three funding streams consisted of:
- The Anzac Day Proceeds Fundwhich provides funds to assist with direct welfare support, such as living expenses, health and wellbeing, education and school expenses, transport costs and social activities;
- The Restoring Community War Memorials Programwhich provides funds to restore or improve memorials, honour rolls and avenues of honour around the state; and
- The Victoria Remembers Program, which supports projects that honour or commemorate the service of veterans as well as educate Victorians about their contribution.
The Anzac Day Proceeds Fund has been bolstered this year to ensure RSLs and veterans impacted by coronavirus are supported along with a pledge of $1.5 million to the Anzac Appeal’s fundraising target following a significant reduction in donations as a result of coronavirus restrictions limiting fund raising opportunities.
Applications for the Anzac Day Proceeds Fund and the Victoria Remembers program will close on Friday, 31 August 2020, while the Restoring Community War Memorials program will close on Friday, 7 September 2020.
Applications are open to ex-service organisations, local governments, educational institutions and not-for-profit organisations.
