Funding boosts for local clubs
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has congratulated five sporting clubs from his electorate for securing much-needed funding from VicHealth.
Leongatha golf club ($2,070), Leongatha Gymnastics ($3,000), Corner Inlet Pony Club ($2,541), Gippsland Lakes Roller Derby ($2,994) and Korumburra City Soccer Club ($1,850) will share in over $12,000 in funding to help create more opportunities for women and girls to get active.
The Active Club grants also support clubs to introduce social, flexible and accessible sports programs to empower more people in the community to give sport a go regardless of their ability, gender or cultural background.
“VicHealth’s Active Club grants help our local clubs thrive and grow to include more opportunities for people to be involved,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Taking part in a sport is a great way to make new friends while also improving your own health and wellbeing.”
Vic Health Acting CEO, Dr Lyn Roberts AO, said Active Club Grants have supported hundreds of clubs across Victoria to get more people in their community moving in new ways.
“We’re thrilled to be able to support local sporting clubs in Gippsland South to provide more opportunities for the community to get active through a sport they enjoy,” Dr Roberts said.
“The success of our This Girl Can – Victoria campaign shows that women and girls, as well as disadvantaged and less active groups, want to get active and socialise.”
