Democracy lessons at Woodside Primary School
Students at Woodside Primary school got a lesson in democracy and our system of government when The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien visited today.
Mr O’Brien was visiting at the invitation of Principal Daniel Phelps and said he was impressed at the students’ knowledge and interest in government.
“What a bright bunch of students we have at Woodside Primary School, they knew a lot more than I expected about government and democracy and asked some very intelligent questions,” Mr O’Brien said.
“It was good to go through with them about how voting works – which we did through a vote between Hubba Bubba and green frog lollies – and how the three tiers of government interact.
“I love attending our primary schools and helping to stimulate young minds about our community.
“The students at Woodside are a credit to their parents and teachers and the wonderful facilities there are helping to turn out a great next generation of little Australians.”
Mr O’Brien said all schools were welcome to invite him to talk to students about his role, civics and democracy in our country.
