Victorian Coastal Awards now open
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is encouraging Gippsland South residents to nominate people considered to have made positive change to Victoria’s coastal and marine areas for the 2018 Victorian Coastal Awards.
Mr O’Brien said the awards recognised the people and organisations helping to protect local coastal and marine areas including those across Gippsland South.
“Gippsland South is an amazing part of the world filled with pristine coastlines, one of Victoria’s largest coastal wilderness areas Wilsons Promontory and a number of beautiful inlets and rivers, which are often cared for by volunteer groups and organisations.
“These wonderful people volunteer their time to assist in protecting our region’s natural beauty and this is why they deserve to be recognised. These awards are the ideal way to say ‘thanks’.”
In their 17th year, the awards aim to highlight the importance of the community and partnerships in safeguarding Victoria’s coastal and marine areas.
Nominations are sought in the following categories:
• Improving the physical environment;
• Biodiversity Conservation;
• Community Engagement;
• Planning and management;
• Research and monitoring;
• Outstanding individual achievement.
Nominations close on Friday, February 23, 2018 and winners and finalists will be announced at an awards ceremony in April 2018.
