Sports funding for equipment and uniforms on offer

Local clubs wanting to purchase new uniforms or equipment, upskill coaches, officials or first aiders or develop a website or business plan are encouraged to apply for funding in the latest round of the Sporting Club Grants Program.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien said the program provided clubs with funding of up to $1,000 to purchase uniforms, up to $2,000 to enhance the skills of members and up to $5,000 to improve the way the club operated.

“This program provides clubs with funding to purchase things like team jumpers, socks, runners, bats, racquets, balls, gloves and temporary shade, which are all essential items that enable people to participate in sport,” Mr O’Brien said.

“In addition, clubs can apply for funding to create a website, prepare a business plan or develop a policy and procedure manual which will improve the overall operating capacity of a club and make it less laborious for committee members to do their job.

“When people are interested in learning a new skill or joining a club, often the first thing they do is jump online and search for their local club, meaning that having an up-to-date website is an important tool for recruiting new members and volunteers and staying in touch with existing players and officials.”

Mr O’Brien said sporting clubs were the social fabric of many of the communities in Gippsland South and provided children and adults with a place to socialise, have fun, learn new skills and stay active.

“Ensuring clubs have funding to purchase basic uniforms and equipment is vital to their ongoing success and I encourage all local clubs looking for some additional funding to submit an application in this latest grants round,” Mr O’Brien said.
