Education Gippsland South Yarram The Nationals Parliament

Sign the petition and rebuild our school

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien has urged Yarram and district residents to get behind the campaign to rebuild Yarram Primary School.

Mr O’Brien this week launched a petition directed to State Parliament to help convince the Labor Government to fund the rebuild in this year’s budget.

“Yarram is a great school community, but the students and teachers are putting up with outdated facilities and the buildings are in some cases literally crumbling around them,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I heard during my visit that there are new problems developing and that this has caused one toilet block to be closed and this just highlights that a patch-up job is no longer appropriate.

“The school is close to finalising full design and development works, which means only State Government funding is needed before the project can get off the ground.

“We are locked and loaded, we just need the Education Minister James Merlino to fire the bullet so we can give the students at Yarram a much better education environment.”

Mr O’Brien said the petition could be signed at the school or at a number of local businesses, including the Yarram Standard office.

“I’ve been working with principal Penny Earle and the school community to get this project ready to go, we now just need the government to come to the party and fund it in the May budget,” Mr O’Brien said.

“James Merlino and Member for Eastern Victoria Region Harriett Shing are both aware of the importance of rebuilding this school and with a strong response from the community we can convince them to fund it this year.”
