Sale tennis club serves up redevelopment
Sale could become a new junior tennis hub under a proposed redevelopment proposed by Sale Tennis Club.
The club recently briefed The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien on its proposed redevelopment that would see the addition of a second “show court”, realignment of existing courts and improvements to surrounding amenities.
Mr O’Brien said he was impressed with the plans for the club which have been a long time coming.
“This is an exciting development with the club seeking to better position itself to attract junior tournaments, which bring significant benefits to the Sale and district community,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The redevelopment will also create a better environment for Sale players, both senior and junior, and provide better spectator viewing on the new “show court”.”
Mr O’Brien said club president Robin Lowe and the committee had been planning assiduously over the past few years and would be able to contribute significant club funds to the redevelopment, but will also be seeking state, local and possibly federal government contributions.
“Tennis is a great sport and one that all of our children should have the opportunity to learn,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Sale club is great part of the community and I’m very happy to lend my support to their applications for funding to the State Government to get this project off the ground. It will provide a first class facility for the community for many years to come and the proposal to host more junior tournaments can only be good for Sale.
“As the club has pointed out to me, senior players tend to move on very quickly meaning that senior satellite tournaments retain only a few players by the time finals are being played, however junior tournaments have consolation rounds which ensures many of the players and their parents and other siblings stay in town for the full duration delivering tourist dollars to local businesses.
“I congratulate the club on its planning and preparation for this project and I am confident it will be successful in achieving the necessary funding to get this project off the ground.”
