Premier again invited to visit drought affected Gippsland
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien has again invited the Premier to visit drought-affected parts of Gippsland.
Mr O’Brien was speaking in State Parliament after the government foreshadowed yesterday that it will release a drought assistance package for Gippsland farmers and communities in the next three weeks.
“If the government is working on such a package that’s great but the Premier, as leader of the government, should come to Gippsland to see the issues we have first-hand.
“The Premier was in the region two weeks ago, but once again couldn’t find his way past the Latrobe Valley.
“I’m pleased that the Minister for Agriculture recently toured East Gippsland with my colleague, The Nationals Member for Gippsland Tim Bull, but it’s important that the Premier now also visits.
“Our farmers are doing it tough. They are resilient and innovative, but there’s only so much they can do without help.
“The Premier is ultimately the one making the call about how to help our farmers and the communities that rely on them and he shouldn’t be making that call without getting out from behind his desk.”
Mr O’Brien said The Nationals Leader and Shadow Member for Agriculture, Peter Walsh, will be visiting the region next week.
