One month on and still no news on Fed Training
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien, has again called on the State Labor Government to provide answers on a new campus for Federation Training in Sale.
Mr O’Brien said it is now over a month since Federation Training indicated that an announcement was imminent on a new site to replace the outdated Fulham campus.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr O’Brien called on Labor to step up to the plate.
“The time has well and truly come for the Labor Government to fund a new campus for Sale to replace the outdated Fulham campus. We’ve seen courses at the Fulham campus cut and student numbers are plummeting.
“Across the board, Labor has made a mess of TAFE despite promising to fix a so-called crisis.
“I am very concerned as to what is happening at Fulham and we need a clear direction from the government and Federation Training on skills training in the Wellington Shire.
“We need a new campus in Sale to deliver the skills and training needs of local students, workers and businesses.”
The former Liberal-Nationals Coalition government allocated $40 million to facilitate the creation of Federation Training and around $20 million of that remains unspent.
“Unless the government has frittered away this money somewhere else, there should be already a budget allocation that could be used to fund a new campus in Sale, either at the Port of Sale or another location.
“Either way the community is frustrated that there has been no progress on this matter for two and half years of this government and its time to get on with it.
“We provided the funding in government for detailed design and development works and while things have change since then in the training space, there’s no reason now for the government not to provide a strong future for Federation Training in Wellington Shire.”
Shadow Minister for Training and Skills and Deputy Leader of The Nationals, Steph Ryan said:
"Federation Training has been abandoned by Labor. Student numbers have plummeted, support services cut and staff have been sacked yet all we have is defeating silence from Daniel Andrews."
