O’Brien urges sports clubs to put their hands out for a hand up
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is urging local sports clubs to apply for a share in state funding to help boost local participation in sports to generate better health outcomes for Victoria.
Mr O’Brien said grant streams from VicHealth and Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) that could benefit local sporting groups and community organisations opened last week.
Current open grants include:
- VicHealth Active Club Grants – up to $10,000 for clubs to increase female participation or promote social inclusion through modified sport for less active Victorians
- SRV Female Friendly Facilities Grants – up to $500,000 per Local Government Area (LGA) to support the development of new or redevelopment of existing infrastructure that enables more women and girls to participate in sport and active recreation
- SRV Community Facilities Grants – up to $250,000 per application, with LGAs able to make up to two applications to support the development of new, or redevelopment of existing community sport and active recreation infrastructure ensuring all infrastructure is high quality and accessible to all.
Local organisations can only seek access to support through the Community Facilities grant stream or the Female Friendly Facilities grant stream by submitting an Expression of Interest form directly to their local council. Forms can be obtained at: https://sport.vic.gov.au/resources/files/2020-2021-lsif-expression-interest-community-groups.docx.
“These grants represent a number of great opportunities for our local sports and community groups,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Sporting clubs and physical activities are crucial to maintaining community well-being, both physical and mental, and it’s important that we find ways to keep participation numbers high.”
For more information or to lodge an application visit vichealth.vic.gov.au/funding for VicHealth grants or sport.vic.gov.au/grants-and-funding/our-grants/local-sports-infrastructure-fund for SRV funding.
