Nats MPs back local clubs in September
The Nationals State MPs from across Gippsland are backing their local clubs going into the Gippsland League finals starting tomorrow.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien has challenged his colleagues to a bet on the outcome of the finals.
Mr O’Brien has two clubs in the running in the Gippsland League finals – Sale and Leongatha – who will be pitted against the Member for Morwell Russell Northe’s Traralgon and Member for Gippsland East Tim Bull's Maffra. Leongatha local and Upper House MP Melina Bath is backing her Parrots.
“We’re all pretty parochial at the best of times but when footy finals hit we always back our local clubs. The Gippsland League has been pretty open this year and there’s no doubt that all the finals teams have a good chance,” Mr O’Brien said.
“I’ve bet my colleagues on who will win the flag, with the losing MPs to contribute $100 each to a local charity of the winner’s choice.
“It’s going to be a great finals campaign and I know there will be plenty of interest from local towns and our wager helps to spice things up a little further.
“I’m lucky because I have two clubs in the finals and I’m confident that either the Parrots or the Magpies will be there at the end.
“I wish all football and netball players and coaches well in their finals campaigns and look forward to the premiership cup residing in either Sale or Leongatha for the next year.”
