Local Landcare impresses MP
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien has praised the work of local Landcare volunteers after touring Yarram Yarram Landcare Network this week.
Mr O’Brien said he had long admired the work of Landcare across our country and the visit only reinforced the excellent work they do.
“I was very pleased to see firsthand the work being done as part of the Jack and Albert Rivers Restoration (JARR) project. There’s been some really important work done by the local Landcare volunteers in revegetation, stream protection, weed management and planting of wildlife corridors.
“The JARR project is a great example of what can be achieved when government funding supports the work of dedicated volunteers.”
Mr O’Brien said the network members stressed upon him the importance of continued funding for Landcare coordinators and project managers and it was something that he would ensure remained at the forefront of State Government thinking.
“Landcare is not just about benefiting the environment, it has clear productive benefits for local farmers and those that have put efforts into tree planting and other Landcare activities have certainly reaped the benefits over time.
“I’ll continue to support Landcare volunteers as they complete their great work throughout Gippsland.”
