Hyland Highway works a boon for Yarram and district
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has welcomed news that works will soon begin on a $10 million upgrade of the Hyland Highway between Traralgon and Yarram.
Mr O’Brien has been campaigning for improved local roads since being elected and he looks forward to the upgrade getting underway.
“This $10 million funding is only happening because my Federal colleague, Darren Chester committed $5 million from the Commonwealth to be matched by the State Government,” Mr O’Brien said.
“These works, which will commence soon will seal shoulders, improve a number of intersections, install new pull-over bays for slow vehicles and deliver additional safety improvements.
“I know the Hyland Highway is a tricky road to travel on as it’s hilly and winding and is often used by timber trucks, milk tankers and vehicles towing caravans and boats.
“This can be very frustrating for other travellers so these works will help improve the road and make it better to travel on.
“Our roads in Gippsland are in poor state and it is a great credit to Darren Chester and the Federal Nationals for delivering this funding and forcing the State Government to match it.
“I look forward to the works being completed and the people of South Gippsland and Wellington Shire having a better main arterial across to the Latrobe Valley.”
