Hundreds of donated nappies to brighten up Christmas
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien got to play Santa last week as he handed over more than 1,200 unused disposable nappies to local charities to distribute locally over the upcoming Christmas period.
Mr O’Brien collected the nappies at his office as a drop-off point for the Nappy Collective Giving Project.
“This is my fourth year taking part in this initiative and I am completely blown away by the generosity of our local community,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Despite the tough times that our region is facing we have been inundated with donations that will prove extremely useful to a lot of families doing it tough this festive season.
“Helping those families meet the needs of their children is one small thing we can do. I’m overwhelmed at local generosity – this is the largest number of donations we’ve received in four years of being part of this program.”
Mr O’Brien said the nappies were split between Uniting Care and Vinnies to distribute locally as needed.
“This project is locals helping locals, which is exactly what this time of year is all about.”
Mr O’Brien said he will continue to be a participant in the Nappy Collective Giving Project and that the next formal collection drive will take place in May, however he is happy for people to continue to drop off donations of unused nappies to his Sale office at any time.
