Guy talks population policy on Sale visit
State Opposition Leader Matthew Guy has talked up his plans for a comprehensive population policy and decentralisation to boost country Victoria during a visit to Sale.
Mr Guy was in Gippsland at the invitation on Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien and also visited East Gippsland with Member for Gippsland East Tim Bull.
Mr O’Brien said the brief visit was an opportunity for Mr Guy to talk of the need for regional development, but also to hear the views of local business people
“We had a great opportunity to discuss local economic matters with business people in the Sale region and they were interested to hear Mr Guy’s commitment to decentralisation,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Liberal-Nationals Coalition understands that Melbourne cannot continue to grow at its current rate and our regions need more population and more jobs and economic opportunities.
“We had a really robust discussion with a number of local business people who talked about everything from tertiary education to skills training and utilisation of Gippsland’s abundant natural resources.
“Matthew Guy is a smart and engaging opposition leader and will make an excellent State Premier. It was great to get his views and have local businesses get the opportunity to share theirs with him as we near the halfway mark of the current term of state government.”
Mr O’Brien said Matthew Guy’s family hailed from Gippsland and he is a regular visitor to the region so he was well-versed with Gippsland’s key issues.
“Matthew has led a united and focused Liberal–Nationals Coalition and I’m sure he will be an excellent premier. I’m really pleased that he accepted my invitation to come to the region and hear about our issues.”
