Grammar students grill local MP
Gippsland Grammar grade six students put The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien under the griller last week when he visited to help with their studies on democracy.
Mr O’Brien introduced himself and spoke about his role and that of the State Parliament before facing an hour of questions from the eager students.
“This was a great exercise in helping the students understand our democracy and the role of a local MP,” Mr O’Brien said.
“They are a very bright bunch and would have kept questioning me for hours had the session not had to end.
“I believe it’s very important that our young people are actively engaged in our community and our democracy so it was pleasing they were so keen to ask questions. Well done to Gippsland Grammar for inviting me and for teaching our students about civics.”
Mr O’Brien said he was happy to speak to any local schools about his role and the workings of Parliament, government and democracy generally.
