Gippsland South schools to receive maintenance boost

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Mr Danny O’Brien said 11 schools across the electorate will share in $327,000 of funding to assist with school maintenance.

“Well-maintained facilities are crucial to providing a well-rounded education and a number of schools across our electorate are in desperate need of funding to be able to provide this.

“Our local schools are great schools but our teachers and students need decent, modern surrounds if our children are to learn and prosper.

“I am pleased that these schools will be able to benefit from this funding but for many of these schools this is only a drop in the bucket and more funding will need to be secured for the future,” Mr O’Brien said.

Gippsland South schools among those statewide receiving funding are:

Cobains PS

$6,000

Fish Creek and District PS

$26,000

Korumburra PS

$18,000

Leongatha PS

$104,000

Leongatha SC

$99,000

Longford PS

$9,000

Sale Specialist School

$11,000

Seaspray PS

$5,000

Tarwin Lower PS

$6,000

Tarwin Valley PS

$37,000

Wurruk PS

$6,000

Mr O’Brien said Foster Primary School, which has not received funding in this round, is in desperate need of attention.

“I’ve begun a campaign for an entire new school for Foster. It was built in 1965 and has leaking rooves and other problems. The school has had to spend quite a lot of money to try and patch them up.

“There’s no doubt that the school is in need of a rebuild and I will now be campaigning with the local community to have funding included in next year’s State Budget.”
