Gippsland jobs decline under Daniel Andrews
Regional youth employment figures released this show the Gippsland region has the highest youth unemployment rate in all of regional Victoria.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien said alarmingly, the youth unemployment rate was at 16.6 per cent in July 2016 – the highest in regional Victoria.
Mr O’Brien said according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the youth labour force decreased by 2654 on the previous month’s figures.
“Daniel Andrews promised to create jobs for Victorians, not take them away,” Mr O’Brien said.
“We should be paving the way for our young people to enter the workforce, instead they are faced with the highest unemployment rates in regional Victoria.
“In Gippsland, we have consistently seen disappointing jobs figures under Daniel Andrews, a Premier with no economic plan or jobs plan for regional Victoria.”
Mr O’Brien said there were 9546 fewer people employed in full-time work in Latrobe-Gippsland in July 2016, than before Daniel Andrews came to government.
Meanwhile, the region’s unemployment has risen to 8.5 per cent, up 2.4 per cent from December 2014, according to the data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
