Funding for Yarram Primary designs to be finalised
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien has received written confirmation that the State Government will provide funding allocated to Yarram Primary School by the Coalition Government last year to enable plans for a new school to be completed.
Mr O’Brien said the good news was confirmation the school’s design and development plans would be completed in time for full funding consideration in next year’s State Budget.
“Yarram students and their families have been waiting many years now for an upgrade and I am determined to see this one achieved which is why I raised it again in Parliament last week.
“Following the change of government last year, the school was told it would receive funding but not enough to complete the design works,” Mr O’Brien said.
“I raised this issue with Education Minister James Merlino, who has now informed me in writing that the State Government will provide enough funding to see the planning works fully completed.
“In his letter, Mr Merlino says the design and construction drawings will be completed by the end of this year to enable to project to be considered for next year’s budget, which is positive news for Yarram and the surrounding communities.”
Speaking on the issue in Parliament, Mr O’Brien invited the Minister for visit Yarram Primary School to see first-hand why it should be at the forefront of Budget considerations.
“Principal Penny Earle, staff, students and families have been very patient in waiting for their new school and I hope that this positive news from the Minister means the Government will provide funding for a new school next year,” Mr O’Brien said.
“It is a great school and I strongly encourage the Minister to visit and then ensure that this project gets up and running.”
